This morning brought to mind an old English nursery rhyme. I never remember more than the first two lines, but those 2 lines always pop into my brain on the first fall morning when I walk outside and the world is shrouded in a thick layer of fog.
One misty, moisty morning,
When cloudy was the weather,
I chanced to meet an old man
I chanced to meet an old man
Clothed all in leather:
He began to compliment,
And I began to grin–
“How do you do?” and “How do you do?”
And “How do you do?” again!
He began to compliment,
And I began to grin–
“How do you do?” and “How do you do?”
And “How do you do?” again!
From Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations
Fall is my favorite time of year and October is the best month of all. I love the crisp mornings and the changing colors - the flannel shirts and snuggly sweaters - the beautiful mums and variety of pumpkins and other gourds.
Immediately after Labor Day weekend, I have to pull out the tubs and do the "fall-thing" to our house. Yes - it was as hot as blue blazes when I pulled them out, but the calendar said September, so October was next-in-line. It was all done well before the first cool day, but that's ok. It makes me smile to see little hints of fall scattered throughout our home.
May you see the beauty of God's creation all around you this fall.
